Reporting a blocked target: required information
Updated 2 min read
A block can be investigated only from evidence of what the target returned. Isolate the fault first, then send the items below to support@proxyforge.io.
Step 1: isolate the fault
-
Request an IP lookup through the proxy:
curl -sS -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@HOST:PORT" https://api.ipify.orgIf it prints an address, the proxy works and the target is refusing your requests.
-
Request the blocked page without the proxy. If that also fails, the proxy is not the cause.
-
Request a second, unrelated site through the proxy. If only one target fails, the block is specific to it.
Step 2: collect the evidence
| Item | What to include |
|---|---|
Target |
The site and the exact page or API path. Not a page behind your own personal login. |
Response |
The status code, and what came back: an error page, a CAPTCHA, an empty body or a redirect. |
Timing |
Date and time with time zone, and whether every request fails or only some. |
Request |
The command or client configuration, with the password replaced by REDACTED. |
Exit address |
The address printed by the lookup in step 1, taken through the same proxy. |
Already tried |
Another exit address, a lower request rate, a plain browser. |
Order |
The order and product in use. |
A request capture in a form support can read:
curl -v -x "http://HOST:PORT" --proxy-user "USERNAME:REDACTED" TARGET_URL
Do not send
Passwords, API keys, card numbers, or screenshots that show any of them. None is needed to investigate a block.
