Acceptable use and reporting abuse

Updated 2 min read

Every account is bound by the acceptable use policy. A breach is a breach of the terms of service and can lead to suspension.

What the policy prohibits

The policy lists the prohibited activity in full. In outline:

  • Unauthorised access, including credential stuffing and brute forcing.
  • Denial-of-service traffic, or load meant to degrade a site rather than collect from it.
  • Malware, botnets, spam, phishing and fraud.
  • Collecting personal data in breach of data protection law.
  • Reselling access to the network without a written agreement.
  • Any use by or for a sanctioned person or jurisdiction.

Collection itself is expected to stay within limits a site would accept: respect published rate limits, back off on errors, and do not parallelise around a limit a site has set.

Reporting abuse from one of our addresses

  1. Write to the Abuse address listed on the contact page.
  2. Include the exit IP address, the date and time with time zone, and what the traffic did.
  3. Keep the case number from the acknowledgement for any follow-up.

Traffic is attributed to the responsible account, and a substantiated report is acted on as section 6 of the policy describes.

If your account was suspended

The suspension notice states the reason unless the law prevents it. To appeal, write to the Compliance address listed on the contact page. An appeal is reviewed by someone who was not involved in the original decision.
