Reconciling a location that a site or map reports differently
Why a site or map can show another country than the one recorded for your proxy, and how to confirm the exit with the proxy checker.
Updated 2 min read
A site or map that shows a different country from the one recorded for your proxy is usually reading something other than the proxy's address. Establish which source disagrees before you contact support.
Step 1: confirm the exit
- Set the proxy in the browser or client you use.
- Open the proxy checker in that same browser.
- Compare the exit address and its country with the address on the proxy's page in the dashboard. Judge the country. No database is exact at city level.
- Read the WebRTC result. A second public address means a page can see past the proxy.
Step 2: find what disagrees
| Source | Cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
A geolocation database |
Updates on its own schedule and may hold an earlier location for the address |
Compare the proxy checker's result with the proxy's page. Re-check later. |
A map or weather page |
Uses device or browser location, not the IP address |
Clear the site's location permission and reload. |
A normal browser window |
Extensions, cookies and cached permissions carry over |
Test in a private window with extensions off. |
An anti-detect profile |
Time zone, language and geolocation are set per profile |
Make them match the exit location, or set them to follow the proxy. |
DNS or WebRTC |
A lookup or a second address bypasses the proxy |
Route DNS through the proxy and set WebRTC to follow it or disable it. |
The location choices available depend on the product you ordered.
If the exit itself looks wrong
Send the exit address, the page that shows the wrong place and the proxy checker's result to support@proxyforge.io, with the details listed in Reporting a blocked target: required information. Support can confirm what is recorded for the address. It cannot control how third-party services display it.
